Specialty Lenses in Allendale, MI
One of the most frequently cited reasons patients need specialty lenses is dry eye disease. This is one reason why our Rejuvenation Dry Eye Center and team of dry eye experts are so critical — they give us the ability to offer all the following comfortable options, with ample support and care!
Our Specialty Lens Options
When traditional lenses fail, specialty lenses offer options where, until recently, there were none. These contacts are designed to circumvent issues that make wearing traditional contacts otherwise inaccessible.
- Scleral Lenses
- Ortho-K: “Eyewear Retainers” for Children’s Myopia
- Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) Lenses
- Bifocals & Multifocals
- Astigmatism Lenses
Scleral Lenses
Scleral lenses are an excellent way to combat dry eye disease. Thanks to their wide diameter, they vault over the cornea and instead rest on the sclera, or the white of the eye. Not only do scleral lenses make an irregularly shaped cornea smooth, but the lens itself acts as a fluid reservoir, constantly coating the cornea. This makes scleral lenses an excellent choice for combating keratoconus, dry eye, and other types of corneal conditions.
Ortho-K: “Eyewear Retainers” for
Children’s Myopia
A lot of parents don’t realize that a child’s nearsightedness can be mitigated with proper myopia management. Ortho-K lenses are specialty lenses that both correct vision and slow myopia’s progression, giving children better quality vision.

Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) Lenses
RGP lenses are designed to provide crisp, clear vision because of their shape and design. Made partially with silicone and smaller than traditional lenses, these custom-designed lenses last longer because of their rigidity and can be used to treat astigmatism.

Bifocals & Multifocals
Bifocal and multifocal contacts have more than one prescription in a single lens, which allows you to view objects clearly at multiple distances. These lenses excel at treating presbyopia, a common age-related condition that begins to emerge with many people around the age of 40.

Astigmatism Lenses
Toric lenses are designed to improve the vision and quality of life of those with astigmatism. These types of contacts have increased oxygen flow and a unique shape, and are designed to lower distortions, increase your eyes’ visual range, and improve clarity.

At Family Vision Optical, it’s our goal to offer corrective contact lens vision to every one of our patients. During a contact lens exam, we’ll accurately identify whatever is preventing traditional lenses from working and find a lens option that works for you. Dr. Nick Lillie’s background includes a heavy emphasis on specialty lenses, and he has passed down this knowledge to his team. Don’t wait to get your eyes properly fitted — you’ll see that we do it better.
