This is a very common question/concern during cold and flu season. When you look at the anatomy of the eye, the eye socket really does not contain anything that should be causing pain. There are extreme circumstances, but more commonly “pain” or “pressure” is caused by inflamed sinuses that are located above your brow, behind the eyes, or in the cheek region. These usually coincide with a cold/nasal congestion and you will feel more pressure/pain if you bend over.

If you are over 40 years old or if you have been doing a lot of computer/screen/near work, the pain may be due to the inability to maintain focus. Either way, we are always happy to check out any pain or pressure behind your eyes that concerns you.
